Versatility Platform scales are built for versatility, with either a mild steel or stainless steel construction available. The latter can withstand use in harsh environments, as it is known for being hard wearing and having high resistance to corrosion. Print out weight data If a platform scale is fitted with a RS-232 port, it means a printer can be connected. Transfer data straight to a PC The RS-232 port can also connect the scale directly to a PC, and an Excel spreadsheet instantly populated. A digital system saves paper and space, and means internal staff or regulatory bodies can access records when they need. Safety In order to comply with certain regulations, it is essential that weight requirements are met. One such regulation is those that are in place on overloaded vehicles – this regulation avoids a vehicle becoming unsafe due to inaccurate weights, which can also result in heavy penalties. For any goods being shipped overseas, a SOLAS regulation was introduced in 2016. These goods must now carry a verified proof of weight, to help ensure the safety of the vessel.
